Marge Williams Nonprofit Center, Bainbridge Island, WA
The Marge Williams Center on Bainbridge Island was founded in 2001 to provide low-cost office space for the island’s nonprofit agencies, including the local parks foundation, arts council, senior citizen advocates, and youth soccer organization among others. To mark the center’s 15th anniversary, the nonprofit board OK’d an extensive energy retrofit to the 45-year-old building, including a new high-efficiency heat pump HVAC and low-wattage LED fixtures in every office. Centerpiece of the project is a 30-module, 8.85 kW rooftop PV array using APsystems YC500-MIW microinverters. The array is projected to produce about one-third of the center’s annual power needs, helping keep rents low for the nonprofit tenants serving the community.
