Fence-Mounted Plug-In Solar Project Powered by the APsystems EZ1
Looking for a simple and flexible way to add solar without major construction, this customer created a clean fence-mounted plug-in solar installation using the APsystems EZ1 microinverter and a pair of solar panels.
The system was designed around a minimalist approach using standard panel folding frames, basic gate hardware, and an existing shadowbox-style wood fence for support. The setup allows the panels to be securely mounted while still remaining easy to remove or reposition if needed.
An added benefit of the design was that the dimensions of the hardware, panel size, and fence height naturally created an ideal panel angle for the customerβs 38-degree latitude location β helping optimize solar production without requiring a custom racking system.
The customer mounted the EZ1 directly to the fence behind one of the panels and used shortened and extended DC cables to keep the installation clean and organized. The mounting system also incorporates common gate latch hardware with padlocks, helping prevent easy removal or theft while still allowing the panels to be quickly demounted if needed.
The system has already proven itself in real-world conditions, recently enduring major wind gusts without shifting or moving.
One of the biggest advantages of the project was flexibility. The entire system can be quickly demounted and relocated, making it a practical solution for homeowners and renters looking for a low-profile solar setup without permanent rooftop installation. The customer also highlighted the convenience of remote monitoring through the AP EasyPower app, noting, βI was monitoring the system while on our 20-day vacation over 1,000 miles from home.β
βOur goal was a simple, low-profile solar setup that could be installed without major construction. Using basic hardware, panel frames, and the APsystems EZ1, we created a clean fence-mounted system that has been working flawlessly for the past two months.β
This project is another great example of how the APsystems EZ1 helps people create creative plug-in solar installations for patios, gardens, fences, and other non-traditional spaces.
