Momentum for plug-in solar in the U.S. continues to build
Virginia’s legislature has passed new legislation creating a regulatory framework for small portable solar generation devices, often called plug-in or “balcony solar” systems. If signed by the governor, Virginia would become the second U.S. state to advance dedicated rules for this emerging category.
These systems—typically small PV setups designed to plug into a standard outlet—are attracting growing attention because they can expand access to solar for renters, apartment dwellers, and homeowners who can’t install traditional rooftop systems.
With plug-in solar legislation now being explored in more than two dozen states, it’s clear this market is moving from concept to policy discussion across the country.
Interesting look at how states are beginning to define and regulate this new category of solar.
