Turn Portable Solar Into New Business

EZ1 opens the door to DIY, balcony, and small-scale solar — a fast-growing category installers can finally monetize.

Portable and plug-in solar is no longer a niche. Consumers are actively looking for simple, flexible solar solutions for spaces that traditional rooftop systems can’t serve. EZ1 lets installers participate in that demand — instead of losing it to off-the-shelf DIY products.

A New Solar Category, Built for Growth

Capture demand beyond the rooftop

While APsystems is widely known for full residential and commercial microinverter systems, EZ1 was created to serve a different — and rapidly growing — market: consumers seeking small, adaptable solar solutions for balconies, patios, gardens, and portable applications.

EZ1 gives installers a way to:

1. Serve customers who aren’t ready for full rooftop solar

2. Add new product offerings without changing their core business

3. Turn DIY interest into real revenue

EZ1 Plug-In Microinverter at a Glance

Designed for performance, flexibility, and reliability

The APsystems EZ1 microinverter solution is the ideal choice for plug-in solar systems such as balcony, terrace, and garden installations, which are becoming increasingly popular as a sustainable and affordable way to generate electricity at home. As APsystems’ third generation of dual microinverters, the EZ1 is purpose-built for today’s larger, more powerful solar panels, featuring two independent MPPT input channels, high input current capacity, and strong output power. By delivering reliable, efficient DC-to-AC conversion, the EZ1 enables consumers to reduce their reliance on the grid while producing clean energy directly where they live.

With its true plug-and-play design, the EZ1 makes solar simple. Consumers can plug the system directly into a wall socket with the included AC cable and begin generating power immediately. Connectivity is built in: through Bluetooth, users can monitor real-time performance on their smartphones, while Wi-Fi integration allows seamless data transfer to the cloud for remote tracking and long-term insights. Easy to install, simple to use, and backed by APsystems’ proven expertise, the EZ1 is the smarter way to power portable solar systems.

Product Overview

The EZ1 is designed for DIY, balcony, and mobile solar applications. It is a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth integrated microinverter that simplifies connectivity by removing the need for a dedicated ECU gateway. It is ideal for smaller systems (1-2 modules) where a full residential setup is not required.

Integrated Comms: The EZ1 has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The DS3/QT2 require an external ECU (ECU-R, ECU-C, etc.) for monitoring.

Plug-and-Play: The EZ1 is designed for simplified AC connections, often using a standard plug (where code permits), whereas DS3/QT2 are hardwired for roof-mount arrays.

It depends on the local jurisdiction. While the EZ1 hardware supports plug-and-play, the National Electrical Code (NEC) generally requires a dedicated branch circuit for permanent solar installations.

No, this is not a requirement for every state. Please check with your AHJ.

AC Output: The EZ1-LV is rated for 900W maximum continuous output.

DC Input: It features 2 independent input channels that can handle PV modules ranging from 315W up to 660W+ each.

Installation & Connectivity

No. You can commission the EZ1 using Direct Connect (Bluetooth) via the smartphone app.

You must use the AP EasyPower app.

Important: Do not use the standard “EMA Manager” app. EMA Manager is for professional installers setting up DS3/QT2 systems with an ECU. AP EasyPower is the dedicated app for EZ1 DIY/Single-system users.

Local Mode (Bluetooth): Used for commissioning, checking real-time data while standing near the unit, and adjusting settings. No internet required.

Remote Mode (Wi-Fi): Connects the EZ1 to the home’s Wi-Fi router. This allows the system to send data to the EMA cloud for long-term monitoring from anywhere.

It depends on the local jurisdiction. While the EZ1 hardware supports plug-and-play, the National Electrical Code (NEC) generally requires a dedicated branch circuit for permanent solar installations.

Check with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) or inspector before plugging a solar system directly into a standard wall outlet for permanent use.

Yes, but ensure the cable is rated for outdoor use (UV resistant, weather-sealed) and properly sized for the voltage drop over distance. Always follow local NEC guidelines regarding temporary vs. permanent wiring.

It is powered from the DC side, i.e. from the Solar panels.

No, EZ1 is a solar inverter, not a battery inverter.

Yes, EZ1 plugs directly into the wall outlet, just like a regular household device.

Connect the EZ1 to a non-back up outlet.

The EZ1 gives you flexibility that many plug-in solar products don’t. Using the AP EasyPower app, you can adjust the maximum output power of the microinverter to align with local regulations or utility requirements. And for customers who need to prevent energy from being sent back to the grid, the EZ1 can be paired with the APmeter for smart zero-export control.

You will need to install the APmeter to measure exported power and to control the EZ1.

No. It is not recommended to connect PV modules in series due to the potential issue with exceeding the voltage rating of the inverter.

Yes, as long as the operating voltage and the current of the module are within the spec of the EZ1-LV, you can use lower wattage modules. EZ1-LV has an operating voltage range from 26V to 60V. The MPPT range is from 27V to 45V.

EZ1-LV microinverter datasheet: peak tracking 27–45 V; operating 26–60 V; max input 60 V; 18 A per input; 25 A short-circuit per input (USA/Canada).

Please check the PV module datasheet for the Vmp range and the operating / max input current as seen below.

Three-column module specification table: Isc about 11.4–11.5 A, Voc about 49.0–49.4 V, Vmp about 39.4–39.9 V, Imp about 10.78–10.90 A, fuse rating 20 A, system voltage 1500 V.

Operations & Troubleshooting

EZ1 communicates only when it is powered from the Solar Panel. There is no communication when there is no Sunlight to power the EZ1.

Slow Red Flash: The inverter is producing power, but there is no communication with the cloud/app (Wi-Fi issue).

Steady Red: Critical Fault. This usually indicates a Ground Fault or hardware failure.

Action: Disconnect AC and DC, inspect cables for damage, and reconnect. If it persists, contact support.

Grid Check: Ensure the AC cable is plugged in and the breaker is ON. The EZ1 is grid-tied and will not produce power if the grid is down.

Start-up Voltage: Ensure the DC voltage from the panels is within the MPPT operating range (26V–60V).

Grid Profile: Verify the correct Grid Profile (e.g., IEEE 1547 for US) was selected during commissioning.

Pro-Tip Corner

If the WiFi password is changed, it can be updated locally through the APP using the Bluetooth connection without touching the inverter.

EZ1 uses a proprietary AC connector on the unit side—do not cut/splice this connector or it may void the warranty.
